AÇAÍ DO BRASIL
Recipes
For the full açaí experience please proceed as follows;
1. In Brazil the fresh açaí pulp is frozen without any additives such as preservatives, it is therefore crucial to keep it in your freezer at - 18ºC.
2. About one hour before blending, take it out of the freezer and leave it at room temperature until the ice begins to melt. Alternatively hold it under the warm tap.
3. As the pulp starts to bleed, put it in a bag and hit it to break the contents.
4. After crushing the defrosting pulp, put it in a mixer adding more ingredients.
5. Banana is everyone's favourite ingredient as it adds consistency to any smoothie.
It is always best to use ‘soft’ fruits and berries such as strawberry, peach, passion fruit, rather than apples and pears as these tend to make the smoothie rather ‘bitty’.
6. If you don't have a jug blender, you can also use a 'stick' blender and a jug or a pint-glass. Make sure you cover the top as açaí adds a very rich colour to anything!
7. Açaí can be used to make a pudding - so it can be eaten with a spoon, it can be made into a refreshing crushed-ice smoothie or it can be mixed as a protein-shake with yoghurt, milk & protein / weight-gain / meal-replacement powder after a workout.
